Dress Code

The standards of dress and appearance for students at Michigan Collegiate are based upon good taste, modesty, cleanliness, comfort, safety and practicality. They are intended to show respect to the school and its faculty, to build school spirit. Students have the responsibility to dress and groom in a manner which does not disrupt the educational process nor endanger the health and safety of themselves or others. The following standards are not intended to be all encompassing. Administration has the responsibility and authority to apply these general guidelines when confronted with questionable appearance not covered specifically.

Middle / High School

Girls

  • Skirts: Khaki (maximum of 2″ above the knees)
  • Slacks, Shorts: “Dockers”/cargo style khaki (must be worn at the waist)
  • Polo Shirt: Black with Michigan Collegiate logo-short or long sleeve.
  • Tee shirt: Red or Black (plain) long sleeve!—shirt may be worn under polo shirt. Michigan Collegiate gear.
  • Sweater: Black button down; no decorations. No hoodies.
  • Fleece: Sweatshirt or Jacket, Black with Michigan Collegiate logo only, purchased from uniform store.
  • Socks: White or Black only
  • Shoes: Any type of closed-toe shoe (high top shoe has to be less than 2 inches over ankle)

Boys

  • Slacks, Shorts: “Dockers”/cargo style khaki (must be worn at the waist).

Miscellaneous

  • All clothing must be plain. Only the Michigan Collegiate school logo is permitted.
  • Shorts can only be worn before October 15th and after April 15th.
  • Bandanas are not permitted.
  • All students must be in dress code prior to the start of school.
  • Field trip dress will be dictated by the activity. Students will be informed of what is acceptable dress prior to the trip.
  • Casual dress days will be scheduled throughout the year. Casual dress means that the school dress code is relaxed for that day. However, the casual clothing must be modest, neat and in good taste.
  • Jeans may be worn but they cannot have holes or frayed hems. Tank tops, muscle shirts, flip flops, etc. are not permitted.
  • T-shirts with inappropriate sayings are not permitted. Casual skirts or dresses must be no more than 2″ above the knee. No hats, miniskirts or du-rags are allowed.

Violations of Dress Code

  1. Students who are not in dress code will be notified by the homeroom teacher and given the opportunity to correct the situation.
  2. Students who are in violation of the dress code because of sloppiness or “stretching” the rules will be corrected and a consequence will be issued
  3. Students in the lower elementary (K-3) classes will be dealt with on an individual basis.
